Torino Bed — Austins Torino Bed – Austins

Terracotta leather, grid-tufted across a reclined barrel headboard — a bed where warmth is structural, not merely decorative.

The recline angle was not arbitrary — it was calculated for the sitting position most people actually use when reading in bed. That angle is built permanently into the frame, so the headboard functions as a backrest without needing extra pillows. Then the terracotta happened, and suddenly the practical brief became something much more emotionally resonant. Earthy and precise at the same time.

The Making of the Torino Bed

Designed by Harsha

The headboard is built to a fixed recline angle — approximately 10 to 15 degrees from vertical — calculated for comfortable back support. Grid tufting is then mapped across the curved, angled surface, with stitching lines adjusted for the changing angle at the edges to prevent distortion. The terracotta leather is dyed consistently across all panels: headboard face, side wraps, and base body.

01

Uniformly Dyed Terracotta Leather

Achieving a consistent terracotta tone across a headboard face, its side wraps, and four base panels requires dyeing from the same batch — warm hues with red undertones are particularly sensitive to batch variation. ::

02

Grid Tufting on a Reclined Curved Surface

Mapping a rectangular grid across a headboard that curves and reclines simultaneously requires adapting each stitching line for the changing angle — so the cells read as squares to the eye, not trapezoids. ::

03

Fixed-Angle Reclined Headboard Frame

The backward lean is engineered into the frame itself — not adjustable — calculated at an angle that supports the back for reading without the headboard appearing to fall away. ::

Frequently Asked

Before You Order

How long does it take to make the Torino Bed?
6–8 weeks from order confirmation. We build one piece at a time — frame first, then upholstery, then a final hand-finish — so the timeline reflects real bench-time, not warehouse stock.
Can I customise the dimensions, leather, or wood?
Yes. Almost every dimension can be adjusted within structural limits, and the leather and wood swatches shown are starting points — speak to a designer if you'd like us to source something specific.
How does delivery work, and where do you ship?
We deliver across India with white-glove placement included. International shipping is available on request — our team will coordinate freight, customs, and last-mile placement at the destination.
What does payment look like for a custom piece?
A 50% deposit confirms the order and reserves your build slot in the atelier. The balance is due before dispatch. We'll share a transparent quote with material and labour breakdown after the consultation.
What if something needs repair years from now?
Every piece carries a lifetime craftsmanship guarantee. Reupholstery, refinishing, and frame repair are handled in-house — a piece built today can be brought back to the workshop a decade from now and restored.
