A side table that speaks the language of the Indian lathe — turned bobbin legs in warm walnut, a clean round top, and the confidence of three instead of four.
The bobbin leg is one of the oldest turned wood forms in Indian furniture craft. I did not want to hide that heritage or make it trendy — I wanted to present it plainly, on a piece that is genuinely useful. The circular top is deliberately simple so the legs can be the subject. Three legs instead of four makes this table naturally stable on any floor — a practical structural decision that also happens to look more considered than the obvious alternative. The rubber foot caps at the tips are a small honesty: they are visible if you look, and they protect the floor quietly.
The Making of the Rocchetto Side Table
Designed by Harsha
Turning three matching bobbin legs on a lathe — with consistent groove depth and radius across every spool section — is a skill built through repetition. Our Bangalore craftspeople work with traditional turning techniques on solid wood blanks, producing legs that match closely enough to read as identical across the table's three-point stance, while retaining the slight natural variation that marks hand-turned work.
Lathe-Turned Bobbin
Each leg carries five to seven rounded spool sections turned on a wood lathe — a traditional Indian woodworking profile that creates a rhythmic tactile texture from top to tip.
Three-Point Stance
Three legs self-level on uneven floors without shimming — a structural choice that is also a visual one; the three-point plan looks more resolved, more considered, than four.
The Simple Circle
A clean circular walnut top does not compete with the legs — it simply closes the composition and gives the spool-work below a reason to exist.
