Carved from one log, finished by one pair of hands — a table that is not made so much as revealed from within the wood itself.
Every other table in the range is built — jointed, assembled, finished. This one is revealed. The log already contains the form; the carver's job is to remove what is not the table. The spiral twist is the most demanding part: you must read the grain direction precisely or the narrowest waist section will split under carving pressure. The concave dish top is a refinement detail — a flat top would have been too expected. The natural checks and surface irregularities that remain after finishing are not flaws; they are the record of a living tree.
The Making of the Spirale Side Table
Designed by Harsha
Carving a spiral twist from a single solid log requires a craftsperson who can read grain direction well enough to prevent splitting at the narrowest sections. Our Bangalore workshop collaborates with skilled wood carvers whose technique has been developed through years of working with dense tropical hardwoods. No two pieces are identical — the wood decides.
Single-Piece Solid Wood
No joints, no veneer, no assembly — the grain runs continuously from concave top through the spiral body to the base, because it is one unbroken piece of wood.
The Spiral Twist
The body spirals from the dish top to the base through a narrow waist — a carving achievement that requires reading the grain to prevent splitting, and patience to achieve the flowing finish.
Concave Dish Surface
The circular top is slightly bowl-shaped rather than flat — a refined functional detail that keeps objects placed on it from sliding, and adds depth to the silhouette.
