Nottingham Ottoman — Austins Nottingham Ottoman – Austins

Houndstooth meets leather. The cylinder meets the backrest. Two traditions of comfort in one unexpected Bangalore-made form.

The humour in this piece is architectural — the backrest is proportionally tiny against the vast drum body, which makes both elements feel more deliberate. Wrapping the houndstooth cleanly around the full cylinder diameter without distorting the check pattern required our craftspeople to pattern-match at every seam. The cognac leather backrest is separately constructed and set into the drum frame — the junction between the two materials is the piece's primary craft moment.

The Making of the Nottingham Ottoman

Designed by Harsha

Pattern-wrapping a large-diameter cylinder without distorting the houndstooth check requires our Bangalore team to plot each seam and match every row before cutting. The cognac leather backrest is built as a separate component — its curved form upholstered over an internal armature, then anchored into the drum top at a precise angle that balances playful proportion with genuine back support.

01

The Houndstooth Drum

Fine black-and-white check fabric pattern-matched around the full cylinder circumference — not a single repeat displaced or distorted at the seams. ::

02

The Backrest Junction

The cognac leather backrest is built separately and anchored into the drum frame at its junction — the clean seam between two materials is the piece's defining craft moment. ::

03

The Drum Form

A solid internal wooden drum frame filled to medium-firm density holds the cylinder shape and carries the structural load of both the body and the mounted backrest.

Frequently Asked

Before You Order

How long does it take to make the Nottingham Ottoman?
6–8 weeks from order confirmation. We build one piece at a time — frame first, then upholstery, then a final hand-finish — so the timeline reflects real bench-time, not warehouse stock.
Can I customise the dimensions, leather, or wood?
Yes. Almost every dimension can be adjusted within structural limits, and the leather and wood swatches shown are starting points — speak to a designer if you'd like us to source something specific.
How does delivery work, and where do you ship?
We deliver across India with white-glove placement included. International shipping is available on request — our team will coordinate freight, customs, and last-mile placement at the destination.
What does payment look like for a custom piece?
A 50% deposit confirms the order and reserves your build slot in the atelier. The balance is due before dispatch. We'll share a transparent quote with material and labour breakdown after the consultation.
What if something needs repair years from now?
Every piece carries a lifetime craftsmanship guarantee. Reupholstery, refinishing, and frame repair are handled in-house — a piece built today can be brought back to the workshop a decade from now and restored.
