The diamonds on the back were marked, sewn, and pulled to tension one by one — the nailheads at the frame edge placed individually, the wood legs turned on a lathe the old way. Nothing about this chair was fast.
Diamond quilting on a shaped back is one of the most demanding upholstery tasks we do — the pattern has to remain consistent as the seam lines travel around the curves of the waist and shoulder. I wanted the nailheads to be the final detail that says this was made with full attention. The turned wood legs were chosen to honour the chair's formal sensibility without making it feel period or costume.

Made at our Bangalore atelier where shaped-back upholstery is a specialist skill, the Grey Dining Chair begins with a lathe-turned dark wood frame before the diamond quilting is mapped, sewn, and tensioned across the waisted back panel. Individual nailheads are pressed into the frame perimeter by hand — the last step in a construction sequence that rewards patience.
