Fair Chair — Austins Fair Chair – Austins

Where velvet and copper have an honest conversation.

"The Fair arrived as an image in my mind: a soft velvet seat inside a hard, curved metal structure. The multi-layer copper rods were not an afterthought — they are the design. Achieving uniform bend radii across every parallel rod is a metalworker's discipline, and when it is done right, the result feels inevitable."

The Making of the Fair Chair

Designed by Harsha

The Fair was designed for the room that wants a chair and a sculpture in one. Its teal velvet and copper frame are not in conflict — they are in a conversation that has been going on since the first curved rod was bent to meet the seat.

01

Copper & Teal Velvet

Warm copper-tone rods develop a depth that gives the chair a handcrafted quality — the patina that comes with time is part of the design. The teal velvet barrel seat is rich and saturated, held within the copper structure as if placed there by intention. ::

02

Bending the Copper

Uniform bend radii across multiple parallel copper rods require precision metal-bending tooling. Any variation in the curves is immediately visible given the repetitive pattern — the consistency of the arcs is the signature of skilled metalwork. ::

03

Welded Load Path

The multi-layer curved copper arches distribute seating load while simultaneously forming the decorative frame around the barrel seat. Each weld at the frame junction is a critical structural point, built to hold without creaking.

Frequently Asked

Before You Order

How long does it take to make the Fair Chair?
6–8 weeks from order confirmation. We build one piece at a time — frame first, then upholstery, then a final hand-finish — so the timeline reflects real bench-time, not warehouse stock.
Can I customise the dimensions, leather, or wood?
Yes. Almost every dimension can be adjusted within structural limits, and the leather and wood swatches shown are starting points — speak to a designer if you'd like us to source something specific.
How does delivery work, and where do you ship?
We deliver across India with white-glove placement included. International shipping is available on request — our team will coordinate freight, customs, and last-mile placement at the destination.
What does payment look like for a custom piece?
A 50% deposit confirms the order and reserves your build slot in the atelier. The balance is due before dispatch. We'll share a transparent quote with material and labour breakdown after the consultation.
What if something needs repair years from now?
Every piece carries a lifetime craftsmanship guarantee. Reupholstery, refinishing, and frame repair are handled in-house — a piece built today can be brought back to the workshop a decade from now and restored.
