The channels run from the crown to the seat in bold vertical columns that catch light differently at every hour — this is a chair that changes as the day changes, always the most interesting thing in the room.
I wanted the back to be the room. Not prominent in the room, not interesting in the room — the room. The channels needed to be wide enough that each one creates its own shadow at a different time of day. The gold legs were always going to be angular, because against all that soft velvet mass, you need something precise and hard to make the softness feel intentional rather than accidental.
The Making of the Calvora Chair

At our Bangalore atelier, the wide channelled crown back is built over a custom steel or plywood armature that holds the flared form under years of daily use — without this structure, the oversized back would sag and lose its drama. The channels are each formed by a precisely tensioned seam sewn across the curve, requiring an experienced upholsterer who works slowly and does not guess.
Pale Grey Velvet
A pale grey velvet travels the entire channelled back and arms — the pile's sheen shifts in and out of each channel's shadow, creating a depth and richness that no matte fabric achieves at this scale. ::
Wide Vertical Channelling
Each channel is formed by a precisely placed, tensioned seam across the curved back surface — maintaining even channel widths across an oversized flared form is among the most demanding upholstery tasks in the collection. ::
Crown-Back Armature
A custom-bent steel or thick plywood internal armature holds the oversized, flared back crown in its dramatic form over time — without it, this chair would be impossible to sustain.
