Margaret Chair — Austins Margaret Chair - Austins

Carved teak. Brass tips. Indian art print. A chair with something to say.

"Margaret started with the fabric — the idea that a traditional Indian art print could sit inside a clean, contemporary barrel frame without compromise. The curved sculpted arm rails in teak are the frame doing its part: the open structure lets you see the wood, the grain, the joinery. And the brass leg caps are a small nod to traditional fine furniture craft. Together, these things create a chair that feels genuinely Indian, not as a theme, but as an inheritance."

The Making of the Margaret Chair

Designed by Harsha

The Margaret Chair was designed to carry something meaningful — the pictorial tradition of Indian miniature art — into a piece of furniture that earns daily use. The floral and figurative print fabric is the cultural heart of the chair. The carved teak frame with sculpted arms and brass leg caps is the craftsman's response: a structure worthy of the material it holds.

Indian Art Print Fabric

Cream-ground fabric with pink, red, and multicolour floral-figurative print motifs in the Indian miniature painting tradition — a culturally specific material choice that distinguishes the Margaret from any other chair. ::

02

Curved Arm Rail Carving

Curved sculpted arm rails shaped from solid teak hardwood require steam-bending or precision shaping — a woodworking technique that gives the open frame its fluid, art-quality silhouette. ::

Brass-Capped Legs

Four tapered solid teak legs, each fitted with polished brass ferrule cap at the base — a traditional fine furniture detail that grounds the Margaret in craft heritage.

Frequently Asked

Before You Order

How long does it take to make the Margaret Chair?
6–8 weeks from order confirmation. We build one piece at a time — frame first, then upholstery, then a final hand-finish — so the timeline reflects real bench-time, not warehouse stock.
Can I customise the dimensions, leather, or wood?
Yes. Almost every dimension can be adjusted within structural limits, and the leather and wood swatches shown are starting points — speak to a designer if you'd like us to source something specific.
How does delivery work, and where do you ship?
We deliver across India with white-glove placement included. International shipping is available on request — our team will coordinate freight, customs, and last-mile placement at the destination.
What does payment look like for a custom piece?
A 50% deposit confirms the order and reserves your build slot in the atelier. The balance is due before dispatch. We'll share a transparent quote with material and labour breakdown after the consultation.
What if something needs repair years from now?
Every piece carries a lifetime craftsmanship guarantee. Reupholstery, refinishing, and frame repair are handled in-house — a piece built today can be brought back to the workshop a decade from now and restored.
