Astoria Armchair — Austins Astoria Armchair – Austins

Every nailhead placed by hand. Every joint cut to hold a lifetime. The Master Chair is heritage seating for rooms that mean something.

I wanted a chair that communicates before anyone sits in it. The serpentine back rail references English cabinetry; the wine leather and nailhead border speak to Mughal court furniture. In Bangalore, we brought these two traditions into one continuous piece of solid wood and leather — every tack driven by hand, every arm joint fitted to hold decades of use.

The Making of the Astoria Armchair

Designed by Harsha

In our Bangalore atelier, the Master Chair begins as a single plank of sheesham. Carvers shape the serpentine back rail by hand before a single stitch of leather is cut. Then our upholsterers set each nailhead individually — one continuous line of gold-tone brass around both back and seat, sealing leather to wood in the oldest tradition.

The Wine Hide

Full-grain burgundy leather, selected for uniform depth of colour and natural sheen — each hide hand-inspected before cutting. ::

02

The Nailhead Border

Every dome-headed brass tack is placed by hand and driven to a consistent depth — a perimeter of fifty-plus individual marks on back and seat alike. ::

03

The Serpentine Rail

The scalloped top rail of the back is hand-carved from solid sheesham — a single curved form that sets the character of the entire chair.

Frequently Asked

Before You Order

How long does it take to make the Astoria Armchair?
6–8 weeks from order confirmation. We build one piece at a time — frame first, then upholstery, then a final hand-finish — so the timeline reflects real bench-time, not warehouse stock.
Can I customise the dimensions, leather, or wood?
Yes. Almost every dimension can be adjusted within structural limits, and the leather and wood swatches shown are starting points — speak to a designer if you'd like us to source something specific.
How does delivery work, and where do you ship?
We deliver across India with white-glove placement included. International shipping is available on request — our team will coordinate freight, customs, and last-mile placement at the destination.
What does payment look like for a custom piece?
A 50% deposit confirms the order and reserves your build slot in the atelier. The balance is due before dispatch. We'll share a transparent quote with material and labour breakdown after the consultation.
What if something needs repair years from now?
Every piece carries a lifetime craftsmanship guarantee. Reupholstery, refinishing, and frame repair are handled in-house — a piece built today can be brought back to the workshop a decade from now and restored.
