The wood strip spans the full width of the drawer because a half-measure would have been visible — in a piece this quiet, every proportion is a decision that cannot be taken back.
I spent a long time on the proportion of the wood accent bar. Too thin and it reads as trim; too wide and it dominates. What I wanted was for it to feel structural even though it's decorative — to look like it belongs to the material hierarchy of the piece. The flush drawers required us to be very precise with the carcass build in Bangalore: the reveal has to be consistent all the way around or the whole quiet confidence of the piece falls apart.

Built at our Bangalore atelier with MDF or engineered wood carcass and dark stone or glass top, the Grey Dresser's most demanding detail is its flush drawer joinery — the drawer fronts must sit exactly in plane with the carcass face, requiring careful fitting that no machine alone achieves. The warm wood accent bar is fitted last, spanning the full upper drawer width.
Three-Material Composition
Dark stone or glass top, matte grey painted body, and natural wood accent strip — three materials chosen for the way each amplifies the others; together they read as a designed object, not a piece of furniture. ::
Flush Drawer Fitting
Handleless flush drawers require the front to sit perfectly in plane with the carcass face, consistent reveal all around — a demanding carpentry task that cannot be disguised by hardware. ::
Dark Stone or Glass Top
A dark stone or high-gloss black glass top slab creates a visual terminus at the top of the piece — the edge detail is clean and the material weight grounds the otherwise light grey body.
