Three headboard panels, two brass dividers, one footboard that mirrors it all — a cream fabric bed for rooms that think architecturally.

I was thinking about the gallery wall — three panels separated by thin metal frames. Then I thought: why not a headboard? The brass dividers do the same thing a frame does in a gallery: they impose order on a soft surface, making each panel read as deliberate. The footboard echoing the headboard at half height was the moment the design became complete. It makes the bed a room within a room.

The Making of the Cortina Bed

Matching cream fabric across all five distinct panels — three headboard panels of different widths and two footboard elements — requires careful sourcing from the same production run. The headboard frame is slot-routed to receive the brass divider strips at precise tolerances. The centre panel is channel-tufted with vertical stitches that must align to the divider edges — off-centre by even a few millimetres, and the architectural intention collapses.

The vertical channels in the headboard centre panel must begin and end precisely at the divider strip edges — misalignment breaks the geometric composition that defines this piece. ::

The headboard and footboard frames are precision slot-routed to hold the brass divider strips flush with the fabric surface — a tolerance-demanding operation that makes the metal-to-fabric join invisible. ::

6–8 weeks from order confirmation. We build one piece at a time — frame first, then upholstery, then a final hand-finish — so the timeline reflects real bench-time, not warehouse stock.

A 50% deposit confirms the order and reserves your build slot in the atelier. The balance is due before dispatch. We'll share a transparent quote with material and labour breakdown after the consultation.
