The Making of the Chester Side Table

The Chester Side Table was born from a refusal to make an ordinary side table. Button tufting on a cylinder in olive leather is a strange thing to commission — and a remarkable thing to own.
Olive Leather
Olive khaki leather — an earthy, sophisticated colour that pairs with jewel tones, dark woods, and rich interiors. The semi-gloss finish catches light along the tufted ridges, making the pattern visible from across the room. ::
Tufting the Curve
Button tufting around a cylindrical form requires precision hole-punching through foam and frame, with each button hand-knotted at a consistent depth to maintain the diamond grid around the curve — any variation in depth breaks the pattern. ::
Rigid Cylinder
A solid wood or MDF cylindrical form beneath the foam and leather must be rigid enough to support items placed on the top surface, while the upholstery wrap provides a soft, tactile exterior.
